A belter mate :good:

You could probably use a FET in place of the relay in the box mag.

Great job, it sounds like you got a great deal of satisfaction from making it, well done. :good:

Lt. Morris Schaffer: "Second rate punk," eh?
Major John Smith: Sorry. All I could think of on the spur of the moment.
Lt. Morris Schaffer: Thanks, that makes it even worse.

Thanks! ROF is no where near that of the realsteel at this point. After i work out the feeding issues, I'll be working on increasing the ROF. :)

Do you really need the high muzzle velocity?
20rps/1200rpm would be easily possible with a lighter spring.

Over here the average fps is around 450. So to be competitive with a very hearvy, not so mobile MG, i'll have to set it at 470-480 (still within legal limits at the sites we play in. Full face masks etc are a requirement where we play). It will also give it the effective range and intimidation factor the MG42 deserves. This way, submachinegunners will have to get creative to take out the MG nest or use snipers.

When i do the ROF mods, however, i'll be downgrading the spring to an output of around 420fps. Down grading the spring is important for a high ROF set up. Then i'll be installing a high speed gear set, 7mm bearing bushings, and a more powerful lipo. But first i have to fix the feeding problems first. Does anyone have an extra feed tube spring?

Haha, thanks!

I was able to find a local spring fabricator and had them make me a new feed tube. It'l be delivered by next week. Hopefully, this is all that's needed to fix my misfeed issues.

Also, after some judicious use of the dremel and a set of tiny files, i was able to free the pivot point of the bipod! Can't wait to deploy this in a game....

Out of interest, why did you get the bipod welded on? I though it clips into a slot on the underside of the barrel jacket.

BTW, if anyone wants one, Chelmsford Militaria had 2 MG42 bipods on their stand for £55 each at Chatham today.

If i had the deact the bipod would just clip on. But since this is folded/rolled steel and not pressed steel, the indents for the bipod would be too complicated. :)

Got the new feed tube spring...feeds flawlessly now. :) The MG42 is officially online! Though i still need to re-design the hop-feed to be able to use a shorter feed spring so that the drum mag batteries will work less and therefore last longer...

Finally used the 42 in a game.

The scenario: "Surprise Attack". US forces attack a german outpost situated on top of a hill. The twist: the outpost is only guarded by an MG42 gunner and another landser. The rest of the German Forces start inside the bunker and can only join the fight in pairs, after every one minute.

The MG42 performed great. It shot like a laser, and i was using the bb flight as tracers more than the sights (like the real thing i'm guessing). It had amazing range because of the 650mm inner barrel. There were a few misfeeds, but were remedied quickly by activating the manual switch of the drum mag. But the sound activation worked well enough for the most part. I didn't get any kills with it when i was manning it but it sure was effective at keeping heads down. It was able to keep the enemy forces at bay long enough for almost all my teammates to make it out of the bunker before i got killed. The Allies still won the game with their daring though. :)

Unfortunately, i don't have pics of the great game itself but here is a parting shot of the 42.
